In the case study highlighting the online community engagement strategy that Greater Taree City Council used to gather opinion on a “Smoke Free Taree” we wrote that:
“The decision to introduce the proposal means that smoking will be banned at all Council facilities, sporting grounds, children’s playgrounds, alfresco dining area, beaches, parks and reserves, at all Council run or sponsored events, public carparks, covered bus stops and taxi ranks.”
In fact, the Councils Smoke-Free Area Environment Policy has far more definition and been given greater attention to detail.
It follows:
Councils Smoke-Free Environment Policy extends to:
- Within 10 (ten) metres of all children’s playgrounds
- Within 10 (ten) metres of Council playing fields, sporting grounds and at outdoor sporting facilities
- On all land used for alfresco dining
- At all events run or sponsored by Council
- Within 10 (ten) metres of Council owned building entrances; and
- At all covered bus stops and taxi ranks
The following areas HAVE NOT been included:
- All ocean and harbour beaches
- In all bushland, parks, reserves and public plazas
- In all Council car parks.
Thanks to Greater Taree City Council for alerting us to the error and apologies for misrepresentation.
