Artarmon Library and Community Facility
This consultation has concluded. You can still browse the site but the discussion area will no longer accept new comments or votes.
Council recently acquired 139 Artarmon Road which is located on the corner of Tindale Road, Artarmon. The property, originally built as a church has been bought to re-house the Artarmon library and provide a community facility.
The newly purchased facility will improve the level of amenity currently offered to local library users and provide the community with a versatile community facility that can accommodate a range of community activities and events.
Development Application preparation
A development application is currently being prepared for the use of the Artarmon Road property as the library and community facility. Once submitted the application will be publicly notified, be assessed by an independent, external town planning consultant and will be reported to Council for determination.
The application will specifically address:
- • Proposed uses
- • Hours of Operation
- • Traffic/Parking
- • Amenity Issues
- • Fit-out requirements
- • Sustainability Measures
Existing site
The existing Artarmon Library site at 2 Elizabeth Street, Artarmon will continue to house the Noah’s Ark Toy Library and Constant Companion Offices. The redevelopment of that site will be reconsidered following relocation of the existing Library use and will be subject to a separate detailed public consultation process.
Community feedback
In the meantime, Council is inviting all interested community members to join the discussion below on the proposal for the new Artarmon Library & Community Facility.
The discussion threads have been derived from the issues raised at an information session regarding the new facility held on Wednesday 29th April 2009. The meeting was attended by members of the Artarmon Progress Association, Artarmon Library Redevelopment Reference Group and adjoining neighbours of the new site. A list of issues discussed at that meeting has been attached in the drop down menu under “Library”. The list includes an “Action” column. This will be updated over the course of the project.
On-going project updates will be made available on Council’s website or by calling Council on 9777 1000.

Do you have any suggestions for the launch of the facility?
The launch is to be a community event. What ideas do you have for the launch, and ways that the community can be involved? e.g, organising a community BBQ, open day, art project etc.
