The Willoughby City Strategy (2006) supports a goal of having ‘open space and recreation facilities and programs that contribute to the social, spiritual, emotional and physical wellbeing
of the community.’ One of the actions in the Plan to achieve this goal is to investigate options for community gardens especially in the vicinity of multi-unit residential developments.
There has been ongoing interest in the concept of community gardens, with frequent references in newspapers and other media; topical issues that arise are the use of underutilised land, growing local food and community participation.
