Q. What alternative does Council have for green waste?

From 2011, Council will provide two bins to every resident - one for household waste and one for recyclables. Some other Councils offer a third bin for green waste, but offering this service is an added cost.

Q. How much does it cost to manage all of Logan's rubbish?

Council operates and funds a landfill and four waste transfer stations, collectively costing ratepayers $6M per year. Although Council has introduced fees to cover these costs, the transfer stations are heavily subsidised through Council rates.

The Brown Plains landfill is due to run out in 14 years and that is why Logan City Council is reviewing its waste management services.

Q. How often does Council collect green waste and household waste?

Council gives households a chance twice a year to leave unwanted household goods and green waste out on the kerbside for collection. This costs Council more that $450,000 each year.
