Q. How will the Community Strategic Plan be developed?
The Hornsby Shire Community Plan 2010-2020 is being prepared by Hornsby Council in partnership with residents, our business community, other levels of government, educational institutions, non-government community and cultural organisations and neighbouring councils. Council has been encouraged by the level of participation already, particularly from individuals from both the rural and urban parts of the Shire. Their contributions have helped to shape the drafting of a preliminary document that is now on public exhibition and available for comment until 19 April 2010. Contributions made on this site will also be considered for inclusion in the final documents.
Q. Why is Council preparing a Community Strategic Plan?
A Community Strategic Plan is a strategy for the future of the Hornsby Shire. It establishes far reaching goals that when realised will have a profound effect on the Shire.
The Hornsby Community Plan is the highest level Council Plan and it sets the direction for where the people of Hornsby want to be in 2020. The Hornsby Community Plan is needed to ensure Council's efforts are focussed towards the community vision because Council can not do everything and must make strategic decisions about service delivery. Council does this by balancing work priorities with community needs and the ability of its communities to fund the cost of services and the provision of infrastructure.
Q. How will Council engage with all community groups?
Council has conducted and will be conducting a range of focus groups, youth activities, surveys and forums to allow the widest feasible range of community stakeholders the opportunity to have their say.
This forum is a key tool and any feedback you place here will be valued.
Consultation activities to date include information flyers to all ratepayers, advertisements and articles in the local papers, dedicated web site and on-line forums, community engagement study, youth surveys, school visits, business survey, local meetings and focus groups and a deliberative community meeting.

Q. What is a Community Strategic Plan?
A Community Strategic Plan describes the community vision/dream for Hornsby to the year 2020. Aligned to the Community Strategic Plan is a four-year Delivery Program which systematically translates the community's strategic goals into actions. The Delivery Program is supported by an annual Operating Plan (Budget). The draft Hornsby Shire Community Plan 2010-2020 and draft Delivery Program 2010-2014 are currently on exhibition and available for comment until 19 April 2010.
