Orange City Council is seeking community input on a $300 million Federal Funding Program to deliver community infrastructure.
The Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program targets projects that can be delivered promptly, boost economic development and support jobs.
The program is divided into two categories.
In the first category,$250 million is shared amonng the nation's 565 local councils. Orange's share of this portion of the funding is $875,000. Council is required to submit proposals to secure the funding.
In the second part of the program, $50 million has been allocated to fund strategic larger-scale projects seeking a minimum of a $2 million Commonwealth contribution. This part of the program is application based, competitive and accountable.
The Federal Government has stated the funding can be used for social and cultrural infrastructure, sporting and recreation facilities and access facilities.

Orange Regional Conservatorium
This resource is invaluable to the community. The facility is in desperate need of funds to ensure its ongoing operation. Without a Federal contribution of approximately $150,000, the programs and resources offered by the Con will have to be wound back due to insufficient teaching rooms. The ORC was poised to submit an application to the now-defunct Regional Partnerships program at the time it was discontinued and there are no other avenues available for these desperately needed capital works funds. Orange City Council is funding a significant development program at the Con, but its budget is not sufficient to complete the necessary construction.

Indoor Aquatic Centre for Orange
This opportunity for Federal funding for an Indoor Aquatic Centre for Orange is a real opportunity to finally realise a 15 year old dream to gain year round access for the people of Orange and district. This project has been on and off the Council's management plan for 10 years now.It is currently back on the management plan - and this potential for Federal funding could provide the answer to some residents' concern about any increase in rates. The reasons for the Aquatic Centre in Orange are unchaged: • The climate in Orange where the swimming season can be as long as six read more …

Increase public car parking spaces
Orange is short on car parking spaces, both in the CBD and William Street, despite council receiving parking shortfall donations from developers there still are no new parking spaces being created in the areas where the shortfalls are. So let's get some more land made available for car parking in the places where it's actually needed.

Improve the decaying roads
You would have to be living under a rock not to have noticed the extreme deterioration of the Orange roads over recent years. Our roads are in desperate need of some major fix-ups and I think some attention could be given by council in this area.

More parklands in North Orange
There has been a trend in recent times to make large new housing estates without any regard to open space or parks.
As a resident of North Orange I am concerned by the lack of open spaces amongst the new houses, we all seem to be crammed in but no one has allowed for a park or two in the residential streets. I'm not talking about things like the adventure playground, or a sports field, I mean just a good old fashioned park with a few tables and a set of swings. Somewhere that people can make their destination for an afternoon walk with the kids as part of their daily exercise.
Also, I feel that having some green open space amongst housing helps people to feel better about their area and not so boxed in.

Water for drinking - not for swimming
Please realise that we do not need ANOTHER indoor/outdoor heated pool in this community. We urgently need to realise that work and money should be spent on havesting storm water run-off and recycle that for use in our community. An indoor heated pool costs millions to build not to mention the ongoing costs of upkeep and maintenance. Our rates are high enough already.
spend the money on water for drinking not water for swimming.

TRAFFIC FLOW
THROUGHT ORANGE IT IS REALLY A STOP AND START AFFAIR. SOME AREAS NEED TO BE DRASTICALLY IMPROVED AND I WILL QUICKLY GIVE A COUPLE OF EXAMPLES. THE INTERSECTION OF HUNTLEY, FOREST AND SHARPS ROAD REALLY NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED DUE TO THE INCREASED TRAFFIC FLOW. WITH JAMES SHEAHAN SCHOOL, JACK BRABHAM PARK, AIRPORT, ORANGE EX-SERVICES COUNTRY CLUB, AND OF COURSE THE NEW HOSPITAL BEING BUILT, THIS NEEDS TO HAVE A LARGE ROUNDABOUT BUILT. THERE IS PLENTY OF LAND TO DO SO, SO I HOPE THIS IS ON YOUR AGENDA, IT IS MOST IMPORTANT.
THE SECOND ONE HAS TO BE BATHURST ROAD, read more …

Accelerate the burying of electricity cables especially in Byng st on the East Side
With the new indoor sports centre under construction the main access road cross town is likely to be Byng St therefore a burying of the electricity cables in that street would assist with safe passage of vehicles and pedestrians.

Orange lacks a good quality Caravan Park
Without a doubt one of the main facilities lacking in Orange is the existence of a good quality Caravan Park. In terms of Orange catering to all types of tourists, it seems fundamental that the city should also be able to offer this level of accommodation. There are a number of families and older people who might be more likely to stop in Orange if this level of accommodation was available. I think we are ignoring an important part of the tourist market by not being able to offer good quality accommodation of this type. Backpackers are another significant part of the tourist market that could perhaps be targeted in a more positive way with clean, affordable accommodation also being made available to them.
