This online discussion forum has concluded. You can still browse the site but the discussion area will no longer accept new comments or votes.

This discussion forum has been set up by Council for two important purposes. The first is to seek your feedback on the Expressions of Interest (EOI) received by Council for future land use options. The summary EOI document is available here to download. Please note that the document does NOT include detailed designs and plans at this stage. Council is interested in your questions about the ideas that have been put forward by the companies that submitted an expression of interest. Detailed plans will be prepared when Council has adopted a prefered land use option. The second is to provide a space for you to ask questions about geotechnical issues affecting the Quarry and its environs. Future land use option - fill the open pit

Comments
9

Council has received three proposals to use the open pit as land fill space and eventually return the land to various recreational uses. This may take approximately 10 years. There is no intention to use the site as a putrescible waste facility.
Do you agree with using the site as a solid waste management facility?

Council has received nine other proposals for the future use of all or parts of the quarry site. These include: public open space; business and technology park; adventure park; multi level car park; private school and church facilities; various recreational playing fields; and a geological interpretive place of interest.
Do you consider any of these to be acceptable uses of the site?

Future land use option - residential development

Comments
7

Two companies have suggested that a portion of the quarry site and the adjoining lands is suitable for a masterplanned residential development with 25-80% of the site retained for public open space and recreation.
The Summary report states both residential development options would offer council a financial return on the site. This could offset the cost of providing infrastructure to the area, and in site remediation costs.
Would you be willing to accept some residential development on part of the site to provide a financial return to council?
