Let's get the Clarence Moving!
Read this: The Facts (766.7 KB)
The Clarence Valley Council is participating in a new project to be delivered in early 2009, promoting healthy and active lifestyles.
In 2005, 1 in 2 Australian Adults was overweight. If your waistline is getting bigger you could be at risk of developing a chronic disease such as cancer, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes. (Stated as part of the Federal Government’s “Measure Up” program)
Clarence Valley Council plans to ensure that you are not only aware of the issues in this growing epidemic but also have access to the tools to improve your situation. As a result there are a huge range of activities planned in 2009. Events will be attractively priced and focused on drawing members of the community to outings within some of our beautiful parklands.
In creating this project we are particularly targeting those not regularly involved in physical activities. We need your input to finalise the list of activities to be available as well as identify parties interested in providing those activities.

What is stopping you?
In the process of identifying ways to get the Clarence moving a big question must be asked. We live in heaven, what is stopping us from getting out and taking healthy options? Is it: cost, facilities, location or options? Bang the table... let us know.

Do you know how to get the Clarence moving?
We are on the look out for new or growing activities that people may wish to be involved in. Do you have a way to get the area moving? Could you help us provide an activity for the community? This problem is not going away and we need options that YOU want to be doing. Maybe someone has suggested something that you like the sound of... Bang the table and let us know.

Healthy and active – what is the big picture?
The information has been collated and it does not look good. This country is one of the fattest on earth. This issue goes beyond health and lifestyle; it is going to affect the whole community. This project is a starting point to move the Clarence Valley into a healthier future. What is the best way to combat this problem?
