Tourism in the Southern Highlands is one of the Shires major economic and social drivers. It generates numerous benefits for both locals & visitors through its diverse range of attractions, activities and experiences via the use of its natural & man made infrastructure. But how sustainable is our local tourism industry? 

Shire residents have proven their interest in being more sustainable through initiatives such as local markets & fairs, bush care and cottage industries.  

Wingecarribee Shire Council would like to help tourism-related businesses live up to best practice values through sustainability initiatives. A new program is to be introduced that develops customised Sustainability Action Plans using State Government Department of Environment, Climate Change & Water assessment tools and funding. This program is designed to support business operators by providing focused information sessions and access to resource efficiency advice.
