Orange City Council is seeking community input into a proposal to add treated stormwater to the city's drinking supply. On June 24, the State Government announced $4.45 million in funding for drought proofing projects in Orange. Council will match this dollar for dollar. Plans are well advanced for stormwater harvesting on the Blackamns Swamp Creek north east of the city, the reconnection of Lake Canobolas and groundwater exploration south of the city. Part of Blackmans Swamp Creek's catchment is the hard surfaces, such as roads, footpaths and carparks,in the city. Urban stormwater, like other raw water catchments, can include a range of pollutants. The Review of Environmental Effects on this site provides details of the treatment process to manage the risk associated with stormwater. This consultation is to test the community's willingness to drink treated stormwater.
