City administration
Making decisions, developing long term strategic plans, assessing development applications, collecting rates and keeping the community involved are just some of the jobs for the city administration. What would you like to see Council achieve in this area over the next 18 months?

All of these things are important, but they are consuming too much of the Council's available funds. These activities need to be reduced to the minimum level, to leave as much money as possible for actually DOING things to make Newcastle better, particularly infrastructure, and particularly the beachfront.

I always grew up to believe that elected Councillors would hold regular meetings with residents in their ward to find out the problems and wishes of the community. I have lived in Kotara for 5 years now and have never had contact with my Councillor. Why should the council staff have to go out and ask the community for ideas when we have elected councillors to do just that

Did you attend the management plan workshop at Kotara? Do you attend your local forum meetings (held monthly) do you send submissions to Council, do you write to the paper, have you ever phoned a Councillor, do you search the NCC web site.
Our Councilors are only as good as the support and information we give them.
I do not think Samantha understands the difference between the role of a councillor and the admin and thats a worry to me. She may like to explain the core functions of each group.

LESS WAFFLE, LESS "COUNCIL DOING BUSINESS WITH ITSELF", LESS "GROUPTHINK", MORE CONFIDENCE WILL MEAN A NEED FOR A LOT LESS PEOPLE. A HEALTHIER ORGANISATION IS FUNDAMENTAL TO A LEANER, MORE EFFECTIVE ADMINISTRATION. I RECOMMEND THE HEALTHY ORGANISATION CHECKLIST FROM "MANAGING WITH PEOPLE" BY FORDYCE AND WEIL AS A RELIABLE CHECKLIST

I would like NCC to take a close look at how Woolworths operate. Lean mean and highly efficient whilst at all times thinking of the customers and the shareholders. They do not operate any non core business, they do not make bad decisions and always have their infrastructure in A1 condition. Their buildings are not covered with graffiti and they have no law and order issues(even for their grog outlets.
Woolies manages to do all this with very few admin staff and most employees floor workers.
