Disgusted at Lord Mayor for using a medical walk as a political talk on the rail line

Quite frankly, no matter what your view is on the rail line, I am disgusted & offended that the Lord Mayor could use the Andrew Johns walk as a political message in regards to the rail line.
He stood beside the prime minister, and said “Thankyou for coming here today, when you come here next year, the rail line may not be here,” and just in the front, I heard some cheers. The walk is suppose to be about helping people with a medical condition. The walk has nothing to do with the rail line issue.

would you have bben as offended if he said he was in favour of it?

The Mayor should not act like this under any circumstances.

The new Councillors need to restrict the Mayor to only making statements that were adopted Council policy.

Given the past experiences with our Council that means the Mayor will be restricted to talking about very little - such is their level of procastination!

Like it or not everyone is entitled to an opinion, Lord Mayor included.

No.. He was getting a point across to the leader of the people that run this state... The last time they said something about moving the railway from the City they were met with boos & jeers, that is just telling us times are changing.... Kevin Rudd walking with Andrew Johns.. Isn't that a political stunt in itself ?

Good luck "Johnsy" on your walk !!

I can understand your point about Kevin Rudd, but NO POLITICAL figure, and what side they take on ANY ISSUE, the walk IS NOT FOR POLITICAL GRANDSTANDING. Kevin Rudd wants to take part, he (like Tate) should leave politics at home, and walk for what the walk is really all about.

We allowed this thread as it began as a discussion related to the rail line. However, it is rapidly becoming a discussion about the appropriate way to behave on a charity walk and, while that may be interesting, it is not really relevant.

Please keep on the topic of the rail corridor and Newcastle Connectivity.
