Do I feel safer, maybe a tiny bit.

I think they cameras are great, but unless someone is watching a live feed then they will only be used as evidence after-the-fact.

Knowing the local Orange Police, and they're complete lack of caring for stopping drunken violent crimes, you would have to be very very lucky to get an officer who pursues an assault or minor robbery case.

I think your comment on the Orange Police is a bit harsh..The cameras are a good idea to deter voilence and capture evidence...But most of damage is done at night by youth...It comes back down to parents educating their children...and checking on where they are at night

i agree learne7 every parent should know where their children are especially after dark.there is no reason for a teenager to be out on the streets in the small hours.

I think the cameras are a great idea. We have recently moved here from another town in NSW, where these cameras have been in use for some time now. Hopefully this system will help to deter those who do the wrong thing and will be of assistance to the local Police. I think it is needed in this town, as there seems to be a number of "undesirables" congregating in certain areas of Summer Street, which I find most unsettling, especially if I am unaccompanied by my husband. I certainly feel a little safer knowing that the cameras are recording.
