I think this project is a waste of council funds as eco-renovation of houses is nothing new and many architects have been doing them for years. It is hard to understand why council is using ratepayer funds to showcase what many consider should be the standard in renovation. It would have been more worthwhile to see council work with unit owners who face significantly greater challenges in eco renovations and yet would also experience great benefits.
Why should unit owners continue to pay the e-Levy if this is how council is going to spend the money, showing home owners how to renovate? Council should have instead spent the money on working with one of the many of the unsustainable circa 1970's unit blocks into a showcase on sustainability. That would have pushed the boundaries on something new rather than acting as nothing more than a council paid for showhome for a bunch of architects.

Council appreciates your view about the eco-challenges faced by apartment blocks and is currently planning a Sustainable Apartment project, as you suggest, to try and address some of these challenges. We will soon be looking for a body corporate to nominate and/or participate in such a project. If you know of a strata body that would be interested to work with Council to implement sustainability measures please contact sustainability@willoughby.nsw.gov.au
