At Willoughby Leisure Centre - the outdoor basketball court lines were recently re-painted. However, on two of the four basketball courts, the line markings are incorrect.

The backboards are inline with the baseline markings, whereas there should be a distance of 1.2 metres between the backboard and the baseline court markings. This makes all markings on these courts incorrect - the free throw line and three-point line are 1.2m further out than they should be and there is no room to play under the backboard.

The other two adjacent courts have the correct line markings.

It would be great if this issue could be corrected as playing on the courts with incorrect markings is no fun.

Also, FIBA, the governing body of basketball, has confirmed changes to the line markings to take effect from 1st October 2010. More information here - http://www.basketball.net.au/FS_extra.asp?id=35040&OrgID=1

Recently Council spent a large amount of money painting the Willoughby Leisure Centre, even though the state of the paintwork was not bad. A much more pressing need emerged in the recent hot weather - to air condition the sports hall or at least provide many more fans. During high pressure classes such as Body Attack and Body Step, participants were almost "dying" of heat stroke! If the Centre is to compete with FitnessFirst better ventilation is a must. For the same reason, Council may want to look at upgrading the "tired" decor and furniture in the cafeteria area.

Air conditioning would be a fabulous improvement to the Leisure Centre. I am a member and on hot days I use the pool rather than the gym/weight room as it is too uncomfortably hot up there! And then there is the problem with lane availability in the pool, so on hot days I often steer clear altogether!!

I have been a netballer for many, many years and the parking and traffic management around the netball courts at Small Street is a major ongoing issue. I walk to netball as a result. Willoughby Council needs to work with all the netball clubs to make a concerted effort to encourage carpools, mini buses etc from other locations. The parking problem is only going to get worse with numbers increasing in the sport - already we have seen it spill over into Friday nights as well as all day Saturdays, which I am sure local residents must hate!

We have had sporadic problems with the light towers at Naremburn Park during our Ultimate Frisbee league for the last few seasons. While there are no problems for most weeks of the season, there are at least 2 weeks every season where the lights do not turn on, or they do not stay on for the entire time of the booking period. When we have contacted the ranger (who sometimes does not answer when called, and only responds to sms messages sent later), he has only sometimes been able to work out what the problem is, and only once in the last 2 years has he actually come out to the field to try and solve the problem. I believe the sms based system for turning lights on and off still is not as robust as it should be, and a manual over-ride switch should be made available for light towers at each venue. This manual over-ride option would help to alleviate many of the problems we have experienced thus far.
