Does the strategy fit with sustainable development goals ?

by RichardB43 2:01pm, 8 Jun 2009

There is considerable concern expressed by the community that high rise developments are not environmentally sustainable. That townhouaes and villas are the way to go.
What are the facts, figures and views. Is the Strategy making things worse, or better, in regard to sustainability, energy consumption, CO2 emissions ?

Many people have expressed concerns about how the Hornsby Housing Strategy fits with the need for sustainable development. Is it contributing to better performance of sustainability through Urban Consolidation. Or is it making matters worse by proposing high rise development which, by some measures, consume more energy than low rise developments. And is the planning process corrupted.

I've tried to separate this into a few different topics.

BASIX Is the system that NSW Government uses to try to mandate sustainable development. What is it, is it doing the job, how does it apply to the Hornsby Housing Strategy ?

Urban Consolidation. Does it contribute to sustainable living. How ?

Sustainable development involves more than just BASIX and Urban Consolidation

What are the concerns about NSW State planning

If the users think something is SPAM (and that means Advertsing pointing to something that is not relevant to this discussion), they can report it as SPAM for action. It doesn't need BIG BROTHER TO step in and protect us from "information we shouldn't know about".
