Foreshore structures on private land.
Over the last 130 years there have been a large number of structures constructed on the foreshore within private land boundaries. eg walls, banks, drains, floodgates, houses, sheds. Now the local and state authorities want to control more and more of our everyday lives. Surely land owners should have the right to protect their property and their assets particularly as the sea level rises. This report if implemented will ensure that some of us are forced off our low lying land in time.

Landowners may have the right to protect their property but I'm not that keen to pick up the bill if sea levels do rise! That's all part and parcel of living on the foreshore. If the structures impinge on public access to the foreshore, I don't support this at all. The foreshore is there for us all to enjoy.

Yes margw that is correct. I don't think ratepayers should or can even afford to protect the property of those of us who live on the shore.
BUT surely we, within reason, and with correctly engineered structures, should be able to protect our property at our cost without many years and massive costs in trying to get DAs through the complex of of rules, legislation and departments.
