Council has received nine other proposals for the future use of all or parts of the quarry site. These include: public open space; business and technology park; adventure park; multi level car park; private school and church facilities; various recreational playing fields; and a geological interpretive place of interest.
Do you consider any of these to be acceptable uses of the site?

Summary of Hornsby Quarry EOI (538.575 KB)

Hornsby Council has not been honest in its reporting about the quarry acquisition.
Whilst there is a constructed road into these lands it cannot be used for any of the proposed uses.
Both Hornsby Council and the NSW government refuse to have an investigation into resident's many complaints.
Assuming any of the current ten councillors stand, it is unlikely that more than one or two will be re-elected in September.
The Ball is in their Court!

HIT and others have been permanent and disruptive critics of Hornsby Councilors and Council Officers. They swim in their responsibility free status, they are able to sneer, smear, accuse, complain and blame, being judges of everything and everyone. Can they do better themselves? Some have tried and failed. Will they stand for Council this September?
They constantly focus on minutia details to obscure the bigger picture. They regard Council baiting as a game at the expense of rate payers.
The last sentance attack on Robert Ball is typical of their unchristian methods.

The Mayor stated on television that the plan was to build lots of units on the site. He did not mention that the public would have any input. I think that Council is really planning to change the zoning to operational and then council will do as it like, as it always does.

ITS EASY TO BE AGAINST ALL DEVELOPEMENT BUT WHERE DO WE BUILD HOMES FOR OUR CHILDREN? THE LOCATION IS IDEAL FOR THE FUTURE AS IT IS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF FACILITIES

The council is misrepresenting the site. The northern end of the valley is our land called Hornsby park and zoned for recreation/parkland. Why is council spending our money looking for commercial value of this land? smells of developer influence? Council should reinstate the sports fields that they destroyed. Compulsery aquisition of the quaryland is a lie there are many ways council could have avoided owning the catastrophy. The quarrie land containing a large unstabble hole was handed back to council by CSR and because council revused to negotiate a settlement, that should have included shutdown of quarry and remediation of more…

COMMENT POSTED TO ADMIN BY 'MAUREEN'
Just wanted to register my vote for “what to do with the quarry site”. I feel STRONGLY that it should be turned into a MULTI RISE PARKING block where for an AFFORDABLE daily fee (or even free if that were at all possible), people could park to use the TRAIN. (Would require a lift in the block to raise pedestrians back to Pacific Hwy street level approximately).
Parking in Hornsby is set to become more and more difficult and with the price of fuel, more people WANT to use public transport, but it is not really feasible unless you can park somewhere fairly nearby.
Can you please put this suggestion through?

I would like to see the land used for recreational purposes, including Bike riding (BMX and Mountain Bikes). This could reduce the impact on more sensitive bush areas and assist in providing our youth with more outdoor facilities.
This is how you do it safely and environmental friendly, with consultation and community input:

They Sydney area lacks a really good purpose built Mountain Bike Track. These facilities have the potential for significant tourism. Virgin now fly bikes for free. NSW is way behind Vic, Qld and SA when it comes to the provision for this activity. It is booming, having the facility so close to the train will bring users who will spend money in Hornsby having lunch etc after/before.
People are prepared to volunteer to assist built and maintain this facility. It would only take up a small potion of the space available.

Dear Mayor and Councillors,
My wife and I moved to Hornsby in 2001. We have a young family. We chose to live in Hornsby because of the great mix of facilities the suburb offers (ie. transport, shopping centre, good schools, Etc.) in combination with a bush lifestyle. I’m sure many other members of the community live here for exactly the same reason.
I have been keeping an eye on developments relating to the quarry for a number of years now. It seems to me that there have been 2 main issues debated.
First, there was the debate about paying for the quarry site. more…
