Have your Say about "The Singleton Streetscape Regeneration Project (John Street)"
The Singleton Council are Planning a MAJOR Regeneration Project of John Street Singleton.
Now this will affect us ALL who live in Singleton, whether you OWN or RENT a place as the Council has suggested an INCREASE in RATES to pay for the Project.
Now it would be great if the Council knew what the Community thought of this idea.
So here's your chance:-
To the Project to Go AHEAD then Vote "AGREE"
OR
To have the Project ABANDONED then Vote "DISAGREE"
This way it is a fair and accurate VOTE from the Community.

1I don't think it is as simple as agreeing or disagreeing with the project - there has to be some improvement to the main CBD of Singleton or it will become a ghost town - we will be left behind as surrounding towns and cities continue to make their localities vibrant and attractive to both shoppers and businesses. We have the opportunity to take this town into the future or do you just want to stay the same forever?

15I don't think anyone is objecting to this project because they don't want to look forward into the future. It's not a matter of ignorance or misinterpretation, its just plain pragmatism - a call for common sense.
Like all micro-economies, Singleton cycles with commercial occupancy and at this part of the cycle there are always fears of the 'ghost town' factor. The reality is that when coal mining is no longer an option, the CBD may very well be a shadow of its former glorious self. Hopefully, when that happens the town will have alternative sustainable industries - but the cycle will continue regardless. That's fundamental economics ...
The lack of authentic community consultation has made it necessary for extreme actions such as this discussion. Some members of the community are clearly frustrated at their inability to object through the survey being circulated by council or, indeed, the Bangthetable forum provided. It's no wonder new discussions have appeared with extreme objections ...

17I think it is that simple whether we agree or not. The budget is starting at $9m what did the Library budget start at and where did it finish. If certain people are so desperate to have it let them pay for it.

0COMMENT FROM ADMINISTRATOR
There have been a suspiciously large number of sign ups for users in Singleton coming from a single computer (IP address).
This does happen from time to time when the computer is in a school or library or where a family is involved. However, in this instance we have 29 signups from a single address mostly well outside business hours and all exhibit virtually identical voting patterns (against the development).
If there is an explanation for this other than it being a somewhat clumsy attempt to undermine the consultative process we would like to hear it. In the absence of an explanation we will simply include details of the activity from these users in our report to Council so that they can take this activity into account in their analysis of the consultation. We have already notified Council of this activity.
For online consultation to function properly and allow the community to participate at their convenience there has to be an open sign up process. We believe that transparency is the key to making these processes work and will always inform the community if we believe that attempts are being made to subvert the process.

1Can I assume this voting option is for the concept plan to go ahead as it is , without any modification? I'm for something, but not exactly what it is now, so must I vote DISAGREE?
Reminds me a bit of the referendum we had on becoming a republic a few years ago, the only option was yes or no to the specific model in the referendum, which to most was not the preferred model, so, not surprisingly it was well defeated.

2It seems that 9 million dollars is a lot of money for such a project, that amount far outweighs the benefits to the customer, if you make it harder for people to find a park they will just go elsewhere, we live in an era where we are getting lazier, and people just won't bother to stay in our main street. Don't forget the elderly and disabled as you may make it harder for them. Maybe we should look for other options.

1I am like you. I feel 9 million dollars is a lot of money especially now that the economy is not secure.Investments are not secure as well and if we loose any more money on the global market will this impact the streetscape total. The elderly, disbled and mothers with prams deserve better access to premises, businesses. Can't we improve shop access by putting in ramps. Aslo more seating along the CBD for the elderly and even able bodied people without our backs facing the street. More bins and maybe some shrubs but not tho this amount of money. I also feel that taking away parking will lead all our shopping to the main centres. Come on if you feel strongly let us vote on paper and be heard.
