Jodi McKay.... Please explain to us why was connectivity discussion extended ??

by Richard Walters 1 Nov 2008, 12:45pm

To date 68,720 people have veiwed these topics on connectivity to Newcastle.. Some making comments, some using the thumbs up & thumbs down system, even some people emailing. Could Jodi Mckay tell us why she extended this forum for, on the day she was closing the topic, as she had a time frame on this topic. If the 68,720 peoples opinions aren't matched in the extended two week period & the pie chart on the main page changes by a huge percentage within this extended period without the same amount of opinions matched, could this be a smokescreen of things to come ? Jodi McKay, it's time to tell all 68,720 people why you extended the topic as 68,720 people who made comments, used the thumbs up & down system & emailing did this within the allocated time frame....Please Explain Why ?? Because that is a large percentage of electorate voters that want explanations !!!

Ic_relatesdoc Relates to date: 30 October 2008 Closing date for discussion forum

surely she has read the comments and has a gauge of what is going on.

but why turn off a forum for 68000 people to have their say?

perhaps she wants a way for people to communicate their ideas to her in a fairly easy form that encourages discussion

Richard Walters Comment 1.1 1 Nov 2008, 6:53 PM

I agree... But why didn't she tell the people before the day it was going to end ?

And a lot of the comments on here are way off the beating track !

Bigfeller Comment 1.1.1 2 Nov 2008, 4:55 PM

Probably if the comments had been based on facts and supported by people who are prpared to take action this site would have been smaller and far more meaningful.

Don't blame Jodi, she has at least had a go.

Its kept you occupied with negative thoughts!!Just joking!!!

Your Concious Comment 1.1.1.1 5 Nov 2008, 8:38 PM

the people that want the rail cut back to Wickham are the negative one ??? Does that mean your in deep depression big feller by the thumbs down !!! joking !!

crooks Comment 1.1.1.2 10 Nov 2008, 10:12 PM

Sorry Bigfeller, but i agree with Richard, there is reason for explaination from Jodi about the extension on the thumbs up/down vote, 68,000 votes from this city is enough to say majority have spoken in favour of changes to our rail system and CBD connections. I have very suspicious concerns in the merit of the extension when Jodi has made her own (not the people of newcastle's) view on the subject very obvious, and they are not in line with what we the majority of novocastrians think and believe is the way forward for our city. So please post the reason behind the extension Jodi!!!

Where do you get the 68720 figure from?

I can't see anything stating that 68000 unique users have used this site. The total number of page views isn't much higher than that (and each user may have caused many dozens of page views each).

time is extended to give the Kill the City mob more time to stack the vote.

It is no coincidence the "keep the rail" option has been rising lately - those who love Newcastle got in early - those who want to hold it back dragged their feet a bit and are now furiously vote stacking.

It is otherwise inconceivable the votes would change as much as they have in a short space of time given the sample size.

Newcastle has spoken. Rip up the line and revitalise the city.

The main problem is that *not enough* people have had their say.

I've spoken to quite a few people on the trains, and none of them had heard of the site. Most of them didn't take the possibility of the line being cut seriously (because they felt it had been dealt with a couple of years ago).

If this site is really meant to be representative of community opinion, then it needs to be better publicised. At the moment, it is mainly just Herald readers that have even heard of it.
