Our rural character is our greatesst asset - it should be protected at all costs. If the State Government forces us to become suburban just like Campbelltown then any chance of a better future is gone.

Clearly stated in the report is what many in our shire have voiced over recent years. Mining under our river ways is not welcome in our shire. Our council should continue to pressure the state government to legislate a buffer zone surrounding our rivers to prevent any further damage.
Introduced species also form a large threat to our local environment and plans such as myna bird and privet removals should be supported whole heartedly by our council. Unfortunately due to previous oversights the removal of these pest species will not be accomplished with a silver bullet solution. However with effort and more…

In helping to keep Sydney's water supply clean our land owners and farmers provide a very valable service to Sydney for which they are largely unrewarded. In New York keeping the catchment clean is a major industry that attracts large payments. We should have some recognition that in managing the environment we provide a service to the catchment authority and Sydney water. This should lead to much more funding for environmenal projects like rivercare.

This is bit out there for the environment section and should maybe be in the economic development discussion, but what about the idea of Council supporting a wireless broadband network in Picton mainstreet. We have a problem with too many commuters. Part of the solution is to make working from home easier (this might mean relaxing planning laws), and improving telecommuting options. One of the downsides of working from home is the isolation, so a wireless network in town would allow people to get out and about and meet people. It would also increase day to day commercial activity in the cafes. Win win.
