Proposed Pathway/Cycleway from George Reserve to Soldiers Pt Boat Ramp

by Stephen 11:17pm, 25 Feb 2008

I dont support the proposed Pathway/Cycleway from George Reserve to Soldiers Pt Boat Ramp. Many people walk along this stretch of the beach at the moment and it is an area already used by the general public. The beach from Kangaroo Pt is flat and easily accessible from several access roads. A Pathway/Cycleway is competely unnecessary and would detract from the areas natural beauty.

Agreed, however council will do what they consider to be be best with regards to this in the name of "the common good" just as they did recently at bagnells beach pathway, where was the avenue for comment about that cycle path??? probably stuck in the library at Raymond Terrace

The local Parks & Reserves Committees who put the gravel path through the bushland at Bagnall Beach did have a say about the cycleway. They were not happy about the width and were told that the State Government was providing the funding and they had to abide by the specifications for a State-wide link of cycleways. They did have a couple of wins with where the cycleway left Government Road to go through the bush and they also suggested the non concrete path that goes through the bush in order to retain some ambience for those of us who like to walk in the bush.

Council is currently doing concept plans to continue this cycleway along Sandy Point Road to the junction of Foreshore Drive and this section is not going along the foreshore. All residents in that area have received a letter from Council about this. I'm not at some stage in the future if they will put the whole plan out for public comment. By the way, from the junction of Foreshore Drive, the statewide cycleway follows Sandy Point Road, through Worombi Street and behind the Salamander Shopping Centre to link up with Salamander Way and thence to Port Stephens Drive.
