From an aesthetic perspective, it seems fine..but I would be interested to know which colours and materials used outdoors can have a beneficial effect in terms of assisting with climatic conditions...which materials/colours assist with maintaining an even balance with heat and cold...is it not worthwhile considering this aspect too before finalising the choice?

Agree with Nirmala. It would be great to see this become a truly eco-space.
I'm also wondering what other materials were proposed, and why (besides being aesthetically integrated) did granite win....

The mall is sloped. Hope that consideration was given to how slippery wet granite may get ... and will the black colour add to how excruciatingly hot in will get to in summer?

Thank you for your comments. The aim of the repaving is to provide a smooth, non-slip, durable and even pedestrian footpath surface which is timeless, easily maintained and repaired and that can be used for events, outdoor dining and some vehicle circulation. For a full background to the selection of materials please refer to the Report which can be found under "Library" in the drop down menu.

can there be some soft paving? not sure what the correct terminology is. much nicer to stand on and would help all those people who work all day at the markets.

I think the paving is a great choice, it will really smarten up the mall. So much better than the sandstone thats been used in Nth Sydney which looks tired a week after its been laid & is covered in stains. I dont think heat will be a problem with the nice canopy of trees and awnings. Can't think of a better finish, I hope it's Australian stone.

I agree, the dark coloured paving will look smart and certainly a very practical choice for a high foot-traffic area. The trees should provide shade.
