The proposed Chatswood Mall design is based on a central spine to maximise available space and opportunity for tree growth. What do you think of this concept?

I like the sound of this, more room for street life and a leafy feel which is in keeping with the area. However, I hope thought has been given to community safety. The problem with pedestrian areas is lack of eyes on the street after hours. Trees could become skulking places. I think the best way to deal with this is surveillance and encouraging late openning and resturants.

I agree, trees and plants are a beautiful way to make a community seem safe... who would rather look at a brick wall than a beautiful garden? Some night street lights or fairy lights would be a nice way to make it appear safer in the dark. These (in my opinion) must be solar powered, there are a wide variety now to choose from and would make it a more sustainable environment to be in.

In addition to the other comments I don't know how community events such as the melody markets and spring fair are going to take place as it will become very congested.

From what i can see on the plans the space appears bigger and free flowing.

The central row of trees seems to provide a lot more room than whats there now, with much nicer places to sit, the central avenue of trees is good because the existing ones are a bit spindley, getting a nice canopy will really soften the space. The markets could do with an overhaul, they are poular but should be revamped to match the quality of the new mall, maybe new stands could help. Hope this gets built because its long over due.
