Council has a commitment to provide enhanced sportground facilities within the Shire for use by the community. As locations with suitable land are limited this proposal includes the upgrade and utilise of existing facilities in a shared arrangement.

Sport is proven good for individuals and essential for young and old (I fall into the latter).
The sad reality in our area is there are few options for more grounds due to lack of available land. the existing parks are being used 12 months a year with a variety of sports which is great to see but they suffer from over use. School facilities look to be the only real option to provide our growing population the facilities it needs whilst upgrading school facilities for their own use.

It appears Hornsby Council did not supply enough sporting fields when the area was being developed, especially around Cherrybrook. There is also a lack of parks with toilet facilities. The only way to rectify this now is to utilize as many ovals as we can and the only way to do this is to approach ALL school in the area. We have close to the biggest Baseball, AFL and Soccer clubs in the state. Having these outdoor areas is very important to our overall health and well being.

The West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook Cricket Club is the largest cricket club in NSW and provides organised sporting opportunties for over 725 children (boys and girls)and adults from our local area. The lack of grounds and training facilities has resulted in local junior Teams playing as far away as Mt Ku-ring-gai and Brooklyn just to get a game. There is desparate need for additional facilities that can be used, not just for cricket, but shared with other sports to help us get children of all abilities outside and active.

Having been involved with both Cherrybrook Technology High School and West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook Cricket Club for many years this development is long overdue. The additional facilities will not only be utilized by the various sporting groups in our community during the weekends and after school but will provide a much needed upgrade to a school facility where nearly 3000 of our local students attend with very little quality "play" area available to them at recess and lunch. In addition to this it will provide facilities closer to the school for PE classes and for training for school teams. This and the additional impact that the facility will have for our community is the resaon it MUST go ahead.

It has been widely documented and aknowledged that the Cherrybrook area is significantly deficient in sports facilities relative to its population. Due to the cost of the land in the area it is not feasible for Council to undertake a program of purchasing properties to start to address this deficiency. There are therefore few opportunities to create new facilities and the subject school ground is one that must not be lost. It is ideally located adjacent to existing open space which means that its impact will be minimal. As an existing area of open space there are no aquisition costs meaning that all available funding can be applied to improvements which will benefit the school(s), sporting groups and therefore the local community as a whole.
