The State Government Waste Management fee is a farce, as is the idea of a separate recyclables collection.

Putrescible waste is 90% water and most of the carpetbaggers offering waste reduction systems to dopey Councils and local Government Collectives are simply using energy to remove the water before dumping it.

Of course, once the dessicated waste is dumped, it rehydrates (refills with water)and the Newcastle Ratepayers are "dudded".

NCC built the Taj Mahal of Summerhill (see Google Earth Coordinates 32 degrees 53.1689 South, 151 degrees, 38.3795 minutes East) that is the Frank Rigby Waste Centre and it sits out there, mostly empty, as a testament to Council's past excesses.

Council can save at least 30% of the cost by better management and by urging the State Government to accept the folly of simple measurement of weight in / weight out in its 80% reduction target.

like the rest of this farcical process, I expect that they will ignore the thoughts of a professional woman from the outer suburbs!
