The Uralla Shire Council is seeking its Community's views on the proposal to consider amalgamation with Armidale Dumaresq and Guyra Shire Councils.

As a ratepayer and long term resident of Uralla Shire I can see no financial or social benefit to myself, my family or the general community in amalgamating with Armidale Dumaresq Council and Guyra Shire Councils. It would ultimately lead to the loss of local employment and local services in the smaller communities such as Uralla. A high price to pay when there are no guarantees of improved services on offer!

I agree with Bower. Uralla has proven itself to be a stable and sustainable community. Unlike Armidale, Uralla enjoys strong leadership and community support. Bigger is often not always better in terms of economic management. Whilst change can be good - the strategic alliance failed because of a lack of commitment from the largest partner. Uralla has the potential to grow and develop. I believe the amalgamation will stifle any potential Uralla has, by sucking the funds and resources out and giving little back in return.

I agree. My concern is that Armidale has far more residents and therefore they will have much more influence on all decisions. And naturally the residents of Armidale will be interested in promoting their own community and not Uralla. What would happen, for example, if there were a proposal for all Armidale waste to be dumped at the Uralla tip or somewhere near Uralla? I see no reason for voluntary amalgamation. However, it might be worth considering options to prevent a forced amalgamation in the future, such as some sort of amalgamation or collaboration with our neighbour Walcha.

We are loosing our indavidual autonomy peace by peace year after year, it may be different if the council was going broke, aline has to be drawn in the sand at some point.

As the saying goes if it aint broke why fix it.

I can not see any benefit for Uralla Shire Council amalgamating with Armidale and Guyra Councils, I am very concerned for our Council supported community services such as the McMaughs Age Care facility and the Grace Munroe Age Care at Bundarra, then the Uralla Pre-School which is supported by Uralla Shire and these are only a few services within our Shire that might not continue to operate into the future under any amalgamated Council. Please continue to support our Shire to stand alone and continue to function as our local government identity. Kevin Luke

truly hope that our own elected politician Richard Torbay MP can come and reckonize similar problems of the Uralla community. How can someone like Mrs Gabrielle Kibble witness the 976 residents and heard from 30 on the night of those present and then totally turn her back on the public demanding that Uralla Shire Council continue to stand alone and we as the local community need Richard Torbay to voice the opinions for the Uralla residents in State Parliament not only assisting Chris Hartcher but at the same time raise the issues of lack of public consultation and economic viability of Uralla to the Minister and Premier alike.
