The discussion paper sets out "The Big Four" emerging themes from the first round of consultation for the 20 year Manning Valley Community Plan. These included:
Respecting our environment;
Fixing our roads and bridges;
Providing employment opportunities; and
Building a sense of hope and pride
In terms of respecting our environment, Manning residents have sent a strong message that they value the environment and want it protecxted. The appalling numbers of trees that are continually cut down in Taree city and residential areas. Whilst I appreciate people should be able to cut trees down in "their own backyards" for their own percieved safety or for view enhancement or similar I think all trees over a certain height should require council approval before they are felled.
If you live in town - where there are so few trees you should have to get approval before you knock down a tree because you don't like it, you think it might fall over or some other such reason. Trees provide more…

I agree, my once leafy suburb of Cundletown is slowly losing its leafy image. Many trees do not need to go. Others of course are unsafe and need to go. Council needs to be part of this decision process! Bring back the tree protection order!
The other issue that gets me irritated is the poor management of the bushland around the town. Browns creek is a great example. Browns Creek could be an attractive ribbon of bushland winding through our town, instead it is an ugly string of weeds and rubbish. The area around the Dawson River Bridge is another example. more…
