A children's play area, a water feature that kids could play in, adequate facilities like toilets, baby change/parents' rooms, quiet shaded seating, and oh, definitely public art!

Definitely not a place I liked walking at night. Also, does not have a lot of character, unlike say, Lane Cove mall which seems always full of activity and life.

This is because the Westfield has taken most of the trade. People park, go into the mall and back to their cars. They could be in Chatswood or any other mall, there is no local identity. The pedestrian mall has become a walkway from the station to westfield. To make it be and feel safe and come to life we need lots of alfresco dining not just Gloria Jeans and Michels but some coffee shops and eateries with local character that are open outside standard trading hours and will bring people to the area.

I suggest a water feature - definitely not for kids to play in - then it will turn into a mess. I don't think the mall space should be turned into a childrens' playground - that's what parks are for and there are plenty of parks in the Chatswood area. A fountain might be too noisy - but the pleasant tinkling sound of a water feature would be relaxing.

Relaxing! That's what the parks are for, and there are plenty of parks in the Chatswood area. A water feature would entertain the kids during a shopping trip and attract people out of the indoor mall as well as giving them something to do while the parents have a coffee

LOL!

Like i said in the other discussion I think performance space for buskers ans street artists would really help to bring the place to life. Plenty of people pass through this area - performers would help get them to stay, shop and play.

The Mall does have life in it...there are coffee shops and places where people meet. We need more inexpensive restaurants/cafes/coffee shops to bring more people here just as it happens in Lane Cove. Any water feature would bring problems with safety, cleanliness and associated problems, but a small fountain placed carefully would add some character. Seating which allows people to gather and talk as in Europe (there already is a group of older men who meet in the MAll) The central avenue of trees is good, Licensed buskers/art would be good too, if controlled.

the fake grass area at lane cove seems very popular. i'd worry about how filthy it gets though. there must be someplace that has an urban play space incorporated into its design. parks are great but sometimes you want to be close to the shops etc. there are a lot of mums and bubs in chatswood.

We love our "fake grass" in Lane Cove! The kids do, atleast! And with the shade cloth overhead, its a great spot for kids and adults alike to have a rest or morning tea to break up the monotony of a shopping excursion.

PLEASE PLEASE BAN (or somehow limit) SMOKING IN THE MALL.
its horrible to sit and eat your lunch and then get a gust of cigarette smoke. On a windy day you can get ash in your eye. If other councils can ban smoking along a beach can't we do it for just one block? Would reduce litter from cigarette butts and make the area much nicer to be in.

I couldn't agree more.

The designers should look at different lighting styles to make the space stand out, coloured lights that can be programmed might be good.
