Port Stephens Draft Tree Vandalism Policy
This online discussion forum has concluded. You can still browse the site but the discussion area will no longer accept new comments or votes.
This policy has been developed in light of increasing tree vandalism that is being experienced across the Port Stephens Council Local Govt area. This is particularly apparent in the coastal zone where development pressure and conflicts between water views and vegetation has seen an increase in the vandalism of trees and vegetation on public land.
Port Stephens Council is not alone with this problem and the policy was developed by a regional working group facilitated by Hunter Councils. It is hoped that a consistent approach across the Hunter region will facilitate a better result than a stand alone approach.
Port Stephens Council is seeking to adopt the policy and wants to hear from the community about their concerns and views on this topic and any suggestions they may have about the draft policy before it gets finalised.

Concern over Visual Barriers
Recently there has been a lot of concern that the wider community gets punished by the installation of signs, containers etc as a result of the actions of a few people who do the wrong thing. Visual barriers are an effective way to raise the profile of the issue and act as a deterrent for the future. Given that the clandestine nature of tree vandalism makes the identification of perpetrators difficult can you suggest an alternative approach?
