Willoughby City Council invites you to participate in the revision of its Cultural Policy and Plan, which will guide Council’s support and development of the City’s arts and cultural resources over the next 5 years. The previous Cultural Policy 2004-08 can be found on Council’s website at www.willoughby.nsw.gov.au/Cultural-Policy.html .
The arts express and reflect the culture of a community. Culture also goes beyond the arts, to encompass all aspects of daily life – our values, ideas and attitudes, language, habits and customs, from the design of our cities to fashion trends. The culture of a community provides a sense of identity, belonging, understanding and wellbeing.
Willoughby’s Cultural Policy and Plan will recommend how Council can best support the community’s engagement in the arts and cultural development through events, festivals, funding/subsidies, programs and buildings.
Council currently coordinates a range of arts venues, programs and events including The Arts and Cultural Development Grants, Foyer Exhibition Space, Willoughby Sculpture Prize, Willoughby Artist's Open Studio Weekend, Public Art Program and more.
Council is also developing two new cultural centres - Civic Place and the Walter Burley Griffin designed Incinerator, restoring this heritage building to house artist’s studios, an exhibition space and café.
Council seeks your thoughts on how you would like to see the arts develop in Willoughby over the next four years and into the future.
