Willoughby Shuttle Bus Service

Willoughby Council

Willoughby City Council is considering an extension of its shuttle bus service and we are seeking your feedback on how we can best accomplish this.

Background

The existing shuttle bus service known as the Artarmon Loop was introduced in May 2009 to provide a free public transport service for employees and businesses in the Artarmon industrial area. The core aim of the bus service is to encourage the use of public transport and reduce car usage by providing a sustainable transport solution for workers and businesses while also enhancing the viability of the Artarmon business district. The free shuttle service operates between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, with a bus running every 10 minutes in peak times and every 15 minutes at other times throughout the day. The bus route runs past St Leonards Station and travels on a loop via the Artarmon industrial area and the Pacific Hwy, providing a connection between other public transport services and workplaces. The buses are also equipped with external bike racks for passengers wishing to carry their bicycles on board.

In order to cater to growing passenger demand the Artarmon Loop will extend operations from 2 to 3 buses in the morning peak period increasing the service frequency to every 6-10 minutes. We will also commence a trial extension of the loop route encompassing Artarmon Shops and the Royal North Shore Hospital between 10am and 2pm (See the attached new route map under "Library"). The extended service will be up and running on 1st February 2010.

Free Shuttle for Northbridge

There is lack of publicity about this service to residents of Northbridge. I wonder how many know of the trial. I only learnt about it today (26 April) from the local '202' newsletter.  It will be a very valuable service from Northbridge to Chatswood CBD, with stops  at Northbridge Library,  Plaza, Leisure Centre, High Street shops along the route.
